NORMAN — Oklahoma voters in both parties face the daunting task of narrowing the list of candidates Tuesday. We’ve visited with candidates, attended local forums and read their literature and comments.

In the governor’s race on the Democratic side, both candidates are solid Oklahomans who would represent the state well. But we favor Lt. Gov. Jari Askins for a variety of reasons.

Ms. Askins has served in all three branches of state government. She was a special judge in western Oklahoma, served as a state legislator and now serves as lieutenant governor.

She has a strong, ethical agenda for moving Oklahoma forward and has the ability to work with Republicans who will likely retain control of the Legislature.
