Askins Has What It Takes to Win in November
Fallin Likely to Remain Under Fire from Tea Party Base

Washington, D.C. – Gov. Jack Markell, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, and Nathan Daschle, the DGA’s executive director, issued the following statements tonight regarding the Oklahoma gubernatorial race.

“Oklahoma voters tonight chose someone who has proven that she can win statewide and proven that she is willing to fight for what matters for working families and families who want to get back to work. Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins has what it takes to compete and win again,” Gov. Markell said. “The race will be difficult, but we are confident Jari will run a strong campaign focused on the right priorities: helping hard working families, creating good jobs and moving Oklahoma forward.”

“Even in Oklahoma, the Tea Party Civil War is weakening GOP candidates,” Daschle said. “Congresswoman Mary Fallin has come under vicious fire from Tea Party supporters of her opponent, especially for her long record in Washington. Fallin will have a difficult time consolidating the support of her party’s Tea Party base and explaining her time as a Washington insider to Oklahoma voters.”
