Askins Gains Early Newspaper Endorsement
LT. GOVERNOR SHARES HISTORY WITH BOREN AND HENRY

Elk City – The newspaper that was first to endorse David Boren and Brad Henry in their campaigns for governor has become the first to endorse Lt. Governor Jari Askins for governor.

The Elk City Daily News strongly endorsed Askins in an editorial published last Thursday. Publisher Larry Wade wrote, “Having looked at the field, we believe she is clearly the person in the position to serve the people of Oklahoma as a strong governor for the next term…”

Noting that Askins “has the broadest range of experience of any of the candidates of either party,” the newspaper said, “Her mind is keen. Her integrity is spotless. Her heart is good.

She is the kind of leader who brings people together to deal with problems and who has proved that she works to build consensus.”

“This early endorsement is a tremendous honor and a great sign for the future,” Askins said.
After we learned of the endorsement, we contacted Larry Wade to thank him and he reminded us he was the first to endorse Governors Boren and Henry in their campaigns. That’s great company.

Mr. Wade is not only a highly-respected publisher, he seems to have a unique ability to pick winners who are dedicated to reform, bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility.”

Askins was elected Lt. Governor in 2006. Prior to her election, she was the first woman chosen to lead either party in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Askins has also served as a Special District Judge and as Chair of the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.

She is an active member of the First Christian Church of Duncan where she sings in the choir.
